A mentor was playing with her student on the handball courts last week. Another little boy asked to join them and the mentor said he could have one turn, but that this was her time to spend with Kenny. The student then replied, “Why does Kids Hope have to be so fantastic?” The mentor smiled and the student continued, “I asked my mom* if I could have a mentor and she said, No, that she and my dad were already my mentors, but that’s not fair”. The student then walked back to the afterschool program, while Kenny and his mentor smiled until their cheeks hurt. (*Kudos to that mom for her creative and true response to her child).
